Dear Ethiopian Diaspora Community members in the United States:
As per our Press Release of January 16th, 2023 that stated the formation of AEPAC sponsored “Diaspora Dialogue Platform for Constitutional Reform in Ethiopia”, we are pleased to invite the Ethiopian Diaspora Community to nominate members of the Dialogue Organizing Committee (DOC) which will be responsible to organize, coordinate and lead the long awaited and long overdue constitutional reform task in Ethiopia. In order to achieve its goal the Dialogue Organizing Committee “will solicit public input, publish scholarly articles, and facilitate public discussions and in-person public hearings”.
The potential nominees/candidates are expected to be those Ethiopians and Ethiopian Americans who are willing to commit their time, energy, experience and good will for the realization of this good cause. The nominees are also expected to be individuals drawn from all spectrum of the Ethiopian society reflecting Ethiopia’s time-tested cherished diversity including diversity in profession, political outlook, gender, age, religion, ethnic background, cultural heritage and geographical regions. They should be professionals such as lawyers, political scientists, historians, social thinkers, sociologists, cultural and religious icons and similar professionals. Those nominees should be persons of good moral character, high level integrity, honesty and dependable persons with sense of duty to shoulder this historical responsibility.
The nominated individuals will be selected by transparent selection criteria based on their merits and qualifications taking into account proper representation of diverse groups as to reflecting the Ethiopian society. Once nominations and selection process are done, we will announce names of the selected members of the Dialogue Organizing Committee. The rest of the nominees can serve as members of the Dialogue Advisory Panel (DAP) which will serve as an advisory body to the Dialogue Organizing Committee. So far we envisage the number of DAC will be about 15 and the number of DAP can stretch to 150 strong membership. We will inform the public if these numbers have to be revised.
For obvious reason this is a once in life opportunity.
